Bhadradri Kothagudem

 



Bhadradri Kothagudem is a district in the state of Telangana in India. It was formed in 2016, after the reorganization of districts in Telangana. The district headquarters is located in Kothagudem town.


Bhadradri Kothagudem district is situated in the southern part of Telangana and shares its borders with the districts of Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural, Mulugu, and Bhupalpally. The district covers an area of 7,483 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 1.2 million people.


The economy of Bhadradri Kothagudem district is largely dependent on agriculture, with paddy, cotton, and sugarcane being the main crops grown in the district. The district is also home to several industries, including thermal power plants, cement factories, and paper mills. The district is known for its scenic beauty and is home to several tourist attractions, including the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station, and the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple.



Bhadradri Kothagudem district is divided into two revenue divisions - Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam. The district has a total of 23 mandals (administrative units) and 648 villages.


The Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular tourist destination in the district. It is spread over an area of 635.4 square kilometers and is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, sloth bears, sambar deer, and spotted deer. The sanctuary is also home to several species of birds.


The Kothagudem Thermal Power Station is one of the largest thermal power plants in the country, with a total capacity of 1,720 MW. The plant is operated by the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) and is a major source of electricity for the state.


The Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple is located in the town of Bhadrachalam and is a popular pilgrimage site. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is believed to have been built by the Bhakta Ramadasu, a devotee of Lord Rama. The temple attracts thousands of devotees every year, especially during the festival of Sri Rama Navami.


Apart from these, there are several other places of tourist interest in the district, including the Parnasala village (believed to be the place where Lord Rama stayed during his exile), the Paloncha town (known for its scenic beauty and the Kinnerasani Dam), and the Manuguru town (known for its coal mines).
